This extremely awesome YouTube secret will allow you to control YouTube on your PC or Mac from your smartphone, just like on your smart TV or PS3. Everything is so much more convenient when you can just sit with your phone, choose a video and it automatically plays on your computer in full screen right? Yes it is. Let’s get to the setup.
First of all you’ll need to access YouTube in your browser by going to this specific URL. (Click Here) You will now be greeted with a full screen TV mode YouTube.
Next, look for the small gear (settings) icon on the list of icons on the left and select it, after which you will be shown this screen.
Now, click “Pair Device”. A new screen will display with instructions on pairing the device with the computer. You can go to youtube.com/pair, but I found it much easier to open the YouTube app on your smartphone, hit the menu button and then select Settings > Connected TV’s > Add a TV. You will be shown the screen below, then just hit the small camera button highlighted in red (in the image below) and scan the QR Code on the YouTube page on your browser.
< After hitting that camera button and scanning the QR Code, hit “Add” and you will notice that your device has popped up on your browser. Your device is now connected.
Now you can browse around YouTube on your smartphone as usual, but when you click on any video to view, you will see this popup. Just hit play and it will start playing on your computer. While playing on the computer, you can control the volume, scrub through the timeline and Play/Pause directly from your smartphone! To switch back to playing on your smartphone, just hit the blue glowing icon to the top and choose “disconnect”.
Now you can enjoy watching YouTube on your computer while controlling it from your smartphone. This can be extremely useful in cases where you have your PC or Mac connected to an HDTV via HDMI and want to sit at a normal distance from the TV yet still be able to control which YouTube videos play next without having to use a mouse and keyboard.
